Chapter 4: Island in Paradise by Premnath Moraes
Hmmm…! At last! Transport Minister Alahapperuma has found the truth. It would take a century for the people to forget that politicians are rogues, the Minister had said at a Western Province Transport ceremony, last Friday. He has come to know that politicians are largely branded as rogues by the people and believes it would be a long-term memory. But then for the people to give up that memory, don’t they have to prove they don’t rob anymore? For a little recognized chap who packed up his bags and went off to the USA in 2001, saying he would not get involved in corrupt politics again, to come back to politics bloated with more power than he ever tasted and then say what he said, does he mean he would one day pack much larger bags and leave saying the same thing? Well, that can go on as just normal, no doubt, in this country.
Gold diggers and murderers forsooth, the JVP is easily the most corrupt, hypocritical party that has walked the corridors of Sri Lanka’s parliament. Split by envy and hatred even against each other, the party is governed by humans that can be described in one word – evil.
